English Philology - first-cycle - full-time
Purpose of study
- acquiring knowledge in the field of linguistics, literary studies and cultural and religious sciences
- development of language competences to the level of proficiency C1 according to the European System for the Description of Language Education (ESOC) - obtaining high qualifications within the framework of oral, written, lexical, grammatical, textual and communication competences and the ability to use this knowledge in professional practice (teaching, translation or in the business environment)
- acquiring the ability to use IT tools in professional work
- depending on the chosen development path - substantive and practical preparation for the work of an English teacher or teacher, an English translator or an employee of an institution or enterprise based on communication in English
- preparation for active participation in team work, solving professional problems by gaining the ability to communicate with the environment in the workplace
- development of linguistic competence in the field of second foreign language at B2 level
- shaping and developing a sense of the need for lifelong learning and the need to plan and improve one's own professional development

Organization of classes
Classes are held at the University's headquarters from Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 21:00.
Confirmation of English language skills
For programmes conducted in English, the candidate must submit a declaration of the English language proficiency enabling him or her to start studying.
Mode of qualification procedure for individual directions
Who can apply for admission to the course of English Philology
- Applicants who have passed the written baccalaureate exam in English at the extended level and have obtained at least 30% of the possible points;
- candidates who have obtained at least 60% of the written baccalaureate exam in English at the basic level;
- candidates who can prove their knowledge of English at the B1 level certified by language certificates.
Candidates from the so-called "Old Baccalaureate" and candidates who cannot prove their knowledge of English (they did not pass the written matriculation exam in English in the new formula and do not have a language certificate) must take the qualification exam carried out by the Commission, which consists of an employee of the field of English philology designated by the Head of the Department of English Philology. The qualification examination is conducted in oral and written form, while the recruitment process takes into account the points obtained from the written qualification examination. The oral English language qualification examination is conducted to confirm the language skills of the candidate that are necessary to undertake studies in the field of English philology.
Letter grades from certificates are converted into percentage grades according to the scale:
Primary school-leaving examination level
100% PTE (160-170 points), PTE Level 2 (more than 70 points);
80% PTE (140-159 points), PTE Level 2 (60-69 points);
50% PTE (120-139 points), PTE Level 2 (50-59 points).
Extended Baccalaureate Level
100% CAE (A grade), PTE Level 4 (more than 70 points);
80% CAE (grade B, C), FCE (grade A), PTE Level 4 (60-69 points); PTE Level 3 (70 points and above);
50% FCE (B, C), PTE Level 4 (50-59 points), PTE Level 3 (50-69 points).
The percentage score from the written qualification exam is assessed according to a five-point scale in accordance with the table below, and then converted into qualification points:

The candidate's position on the ranking list is determined by the number of points obtained from the matriculation exam or the number of conversion points obtained from language certificates or the qualification exam, with the points obtained from the matriculation exam at the extended level multiplied by 2.

The recruitment fee in the amount of PLN 85 should be paid as soon as possible after registration of the application and no later than on the date of submission of documents and the end of the recruitment round.
The recruitment fee is refundable for a written contribution only in the following cases:
- failure to establish the field of study, postgraduate studies, specialist education course and education in other forms for reasons attributable to the University,
- withdrawal of recruitment documents by the candidate before their analysis by the recruitment committee,
- in the event that the candidate makes a payment after the deadline set for making it resulting from the Regulations of the Admission Procedure and will not be accepted to study.
Fee for issuing an Electronic Student Card (ELS) - PLN 22
Note! The fee for the Electronic Student Card is paid once, regardless of the number of selected programmes. It should be submitted after receiving information about enrolment.
The fees for programmes conducted in English are determined by the Rector’s order.
The semester fee for full-time English Philology programme in English for students who are Polish citizens starting the education cycle in the academic year 2023/2024 (first-cycle programme) is PLN1,500.
The semester fee for full-time English Philology programme in English for foreign students starting the education cycle in the academic year 2023/2024 (first-cycle programme) is PLN7,700.
The fees for full-time programmes in English are paid to the University's bank account (other than that for the admission fee or the Electronic Student Card fee), by 15 October in the winter semester and by 15 March in the summer semester. You will receive the bank account number to pay for your programme after you are enroled as a student.
