BIP in Malta: intercultural experience in practice

Students of the University of Lomza once again took part in an international Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), this time within the project “Multicultural Organizations”, organised by Malta Leadership Institute. The programme focused on developing intercultural awareness and preparing participants to function effectively in an international working environment.

The programme began with an introductory online meeting on April 9, during which participants were presented with the structure and objectives of the BIP. From the University of Lomza, six students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities initially joined the project, ready to explore the complexities of multicultural cooperation in Europe.

The on-site mobility officially started on April 20, although five students of English Philology decided to arrive earlier to make the most of their time on the island. Taking advantage of this opportunity, they explored Malta in two groups—one visiting the picturesque island of Gozo, while the other focused on active, sport-oriented activities. This early arrival proved to be a perfect introduction before the intensive programme week.

During the BIP, students worked in international teams, carrying out practical research on multiculturalism in the workplace. Their tasks included preparing research questions, conducting interviews with employees from various institutions, analysing collected data, and presenting their findings. As part of their fieldwork, one group visited a local café, while another conducted research at Da Vinci Hospital. These experiences allowed participants to observe how cultural diversity functions in different professional environments, providing them with valuable skills in intercultural communication, teamwork, and analytical thinking.

Beyond academic activities, students also had the opportunity to experience Malta’s unique atmosphere. They visited Sliema and explored the historic city of Mdina, combining learning with cultural discovery. At the same time, Erasmus+ mobility at the University of Lomza continues at full speed while one group returns from Estonia and another completes their stay in Malta, more students are already preparing for upcoming mobilities to Romania and Lithuania.

The BIP in Malta once again proved that Erasmus+ is not only about academic development, but also about gaining real-life experience, building international networks, and discovering new cultures.
