University of Lomza was first established on June 22^nd, 2004 by an act of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland. At first, the main motto of our University was: “Creating small and medium-sized enterprises,” yet it was later altered due to new directions of development and newly formed fields of study. In 2012, the Academic Senate reformed the motto to: "We educate practitioners".

After ten years of hard work put into achieving excellence in this field and having prepared hundreds of students to the best of their abilities, our University has began its journey of taking anothr great step in its academic journey.

That is why after thoughtful consideration, the Academic Senate decided to make this grand step official by refolmulating the motto yet again, to focus on the following direction:

“We educate professionals”

In the history of Łomża, sixteen years is like a blink of an eye, but in the history of the University it is a whole era, from very difficult organizational beginnings to the present time, when our University stands out from other state schools, thanks to its extraordinary dynamics, great equipment, excellent teaching staff and scientific development. However, the greatest success of the University are individual achievements of our graduates who undertake further studies and wonderfully manage in life as well as at work.

Our University is recognizable in the country and in the region as the centre of education of specialists– practitioners. University of Lomza offers first and second cycle degrees, full-time and part-time. Every year, we develop in our students the knowledge and skills that will enable them to work in their chosen professions, as well as open the door to the world in the form of Erasmus+ (study and practice). Our University became an extremely flexible and efficient institution that is a part of the tradition of Łomża and relies on the cooperation of the entire region. It is the pride of all inhabitants of Łomża, permanently inscribed in the history of the city and its architectural landscape.

Development Strategy of University of Lomza:

The University decided on the main directions of the Development Strategy, in accordance with the market and local needs. Within each of the proposed areas, key objectives are implemented, all carefully chosen as a continuation of the past strategic development directions: development of teaching staff, improvement of university infrastructure, improvement and constant adaptation of the teaching offer, development of research activities with particular emphasis on implementation projects. In the previously implemented Strategy, internationalization was treated as a horizontal objective, i.e. it served the purpose of implementing goals from all other strategic areas. However, in the new Strategy, internationalization has been raised to the rank equal with other independent strategic areas. Within its framework, the initial strategic and specific objectives have been formulated as follows:

Strategic objective: to increase the degree of internationalization of the University and to improve the quality of internationalization.

Specific objectives:

1. Expanding the didactic offer in English.
2. Establishing cooperation and deepening existing liaison with universities and foreign partners, as well as other organizations whose activities are related to internationalization (e.g. the Fulbright Commission).
3. Intensifying international learning mobilities of students, graduates and employees of the University.
4. Improving the competences of staff and students in order to develop foreign students-friendly University.
5. Taking actions to ensure the use and promotion of digital mobility management tools.

The University's participation in the Erasmus+ Programme has a compelling impact on the implementation of each of the aforementioned objectives. At the same time, within other strategic areas (apart from internationalization), there are envisaged activities that the implementation of which may significantly support participation in the Erasmus+ Programme.

In terms of teaching staff development, it is primarily related to the possibility of enhancing competences through participation in all forms of mobility. While implementing goals in the area of improving university infrastructure, we plan to provide technical arrangements enabling foreign students to use all facilities equally to the same extent as it is possible for domestic students. This includes providing English instructions, messages, and software in addition to Polish language-oriented forms. Tasks in the area of adapting the didactic offer coincide with tasks in the area of internationalization, i.e. they fundamentally include expanding the subject offer in English. Moreover, the University's participation in the implementation of tasks in the area of research activity development is also of great importance. In its principle, it is related to strategic partnerships as part of cooperation for the purpose of innovation. The university is currently implementing the project as part of such a partnership. Further activities in this area are currently being planned.
