Intercultural lessons and sports challenges with Erasmus+ at Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych i Ogólnokształcących nr 6 in Łomża

Studentka na tle prezentacji mówi do osób będących poza kadrem

On Tuesday, March 27, Erasmus+ students spent the day at Zespół Szkół Ekonomicznych i Ogólnokształcących nr 6 in Łomża. Representatives of the University of Lomza visited the students to introduce themselves, their universities, countries, and cultures, promoting the idea of international exchange among young people who are just beginning their journey to adulthood and considering their choice of higher education. This third meeting took place within the walls of the Łomża “Ekonomik,” with cultural and linguistic diversity as the main focus.

The first presentation was given by a student from the Łomża school, who introduced Poland, its customs, and traditions to our visiting students. A total of 34 students came to Łomża, 22 of whom were from Turkey. Students had the opportunity to talk with representatives of English philology from Izmir and Skara, Tugce Kaygisiz and Sude Nehir Ozkan, who shared their passion for learning foreign languages and interesting facts about differences in body language, tea-drinking traditions, fortune-telling with tea leaves, and even the patron’s eye.

Another speaker who particularly captured the students’ attention was Akyalai Kubatbekova, a law student from Ala-Too University in Kyrgyzstan, visiting from Bishkek. In her presentation, she showed photos of the most beautiful places in her home country and introduced traditional games, dishes, and clothing. She received the most questions from students, and the most active participants were awarded university gadgets.

Rafael Jorge Rodrigues and Ines Parrulas from Portugal talked about their roots and country, assuring the Łomża youth that Portugal remains an underrated destination, both for vacations and studies. Hot topics included the Porto trio, as well as questions about living costs and salaries in Portugal. The final presenters, Manuel Plaza Dancausa and Lucia Arias Rodriguez, sparked an animated discussion about food, bullfighting, and sports.

The event offered the chance to learn many interesting facts about international students, the Erasmus+ and Fulbright programs, as well as the traditions and customs of other countries. Lasting nearly three hours, it aimed to promote the English language and foster international relationships. Following the presentations, a friendly football match was held between international representatives of the University of Lomza and the ZSO nr 6 team. Although the match ended 3:9 against our students, no one left the field disappointed.

Representing the University of Lomza were: Emre Badzhak, Simeon Vulchev (Bulgaria), Kubra Yildirim, Hasan Bayraktar, Umut Tarik Ermis (Turkey), Manuel Plaza Dancausa (Spain), Zbigniew Dziekoński, and guest players Sebastian Dąbrowski and Mateusz Góralczyk (Poland). The team was coached by Rafael Jorge Rodrigues (Portugal).
