As every year, at the beginning of each semester, adaptation days were आयोजित for Erasmus+ students who arrived in Łomża from different parts of the world. This year, our University welcomed a group of students from Turkey, Spain, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Italy — 24 people in total. Representatives of various fields of study – from computer science, through English philology and management, to physical education and physiotherapy – took part in the Adaptation Days.
The program began with an introduction to the infrastructure of the University of Lomza. Accompanied by dr inż. Milena Stachelska, mgr inż. Leszek Dardziński from the Faculty of Health Sciences, and mgr inż. Arkadiusz Nieciecki from the Faculty of Computer Science and Technology, participants had the opportunity to visit technical classrooms, lecture halls, and automation and robotics laboratories, as well as familiarize themselves with the equipment used in technical study programs. This included the Laboratory of Additive Technologies and Thermal Printing, as well as computer graphics, IoT (Internet of Things), and industrial automation labs. Although some of the information might have seemed trivial – such as room numbering, informal building names, the location of the canteen, or the rules governing the student government – it significantly facilitated students’ adaptation to the new academic environment.
Another part of the program included Polish language classes conducted by mgr Barbara Adamiak from the Academic Centre of Foreign Languages. During this short, intensive course, students learned phrases essential for everyday communication, such as polite greetings, how to ask for a room key, and how to introduce themselves. At the end of the classes, participants received educational materials that will certainly support them in further learning and daily life.
During the next stage of the Adaptation Days, students explored the center of Łomża with a guide, who showed them the most important parts of the city. The tour allowed them to discover the fascinating history of Łomża, learn interesting facts, and find places where they can taste traditional Polish dishes in local restaurants.
The Adaptation Days became the first contact with Polish culture and the university for our international guests, helping them adjust to the new environment and begin building international relationships. However, this is only the beginning of their adventure – real student life in Poland is still ahead of them!
