The Professor Antoni Jakubczak Auditorium, filled to capacity, was the venue for a special event—the ceremonial inauguration of the 2024/2025 academic year at the University of Lomza. Students, lecturers, and numerous invited guests gathered together to celebrate one of the most important moments in the life of the university. The inauguration, symbolizing a new beginning, is a key point in the academic calendar. This event not only marked the start of a new chapter for students embarking on their educational journey but also for the entire academic community. This year’s inauguration also symbolically concluded the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the University of Lomza.
"The University of Lomza is the pride of our city and region," emphasized the Rector of the University of Lomza, Dr. hab. Dariusz Surowik, Prof. AŁ, in his speech. He highlighted the special role the university plays in the development of Łomża and the region, as well as presenting the institution's most significant achievements. Over the years, the University of Lomza has become a place where young people acquire knowledge, develop their talents, and shape their civic attitudes. We are pleased with the high interest in our studies, as confirmed by this year’s recruitment process. We are growing both academically and educationally as a university, offering new study programs and having the authority to confer doctoral and habilitation degrees. The Rector also pointed to the improving academic and educational conditions, thanks to investments in infrastructure, and noted that the university collaborates with scientific and business centers, offering students new development opportunities.
An important highlight of this year’s inauguration was the presence of 26 international students who have joined our institution as part of the Erasmus+ program. These students, coming from various countries, not only enrich the academic community with their diverse cultural perspectives but also contribute to the university's growing international profile. Their presence reflects the University of Lomza’s commitment to fostering global cooperation and promoting an internationalized educational environment. This vibrant exchange of ideas and experiences is instrumental in broadening the horizons of both students and faculty, enhancing the quality of education and collaborative opportunities.
As is tradition, during the inauguration, first-year students took an oath, pledging to uphold academic values and honor the student community of the University of Lomza. The matriculation ceremony was led by the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs, Dr. Izabela Sekścińska. "I solemnly swear to strive diligently for the acquisition of knowledge and the development of my personality..." With these words, students from the university’s four faculties declared that they would nurture academic customs and uphold the honor of being a student at the University of Lomza. This commitment was made this year by 712 first-year students.
The academic community embarked on new scientific, educational, and organizational challenges by listening to the inaugural lecture, "The Meanders of Artificial Intelligence Development," delivered by Dr. hab. inż. Arkadiusz Orłowski, Prof. of the University. In his lecture, Professor Orłowski discussed the dynamic development of artificial intelligence, presenting both the opportunities and challenges humanity will face in the coming years. The lecture garnered significant interest and inspired reflection on the future of new technologies.
The ceremony traditionally concluded with an artistic performance. This year, the gathered guests had the pleasure of attending a concert by Mateusz Krautwurst, who, as part of the SOLO ACT project, performed popular and beloved hits from the world of pop music. His performance, accompanied by guitar, added a unique touch to the event.
