Food Technology and Human Nutrition
With the development of the food industry, it has been observed a growing demand for well-trained professionals who understand and are able to create the process of food production to keep the most precious value of the raw materials used in the entire manufacturing process. Food Technology and Human Nutrition is one of the most interesting fields of study offered by universities. Studies prepare technologists and analysts of the food industry, fermentation and nutrition, services of official food control, as well as researchers.The quality of education is supported by a cooperation contract in the implementation of the field of study signed by Lomza State University of Applied Sciences with the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, University of Warmia – Mazury
in Olsztyn, Bialystok University of Technology and a number of food industry companies and agriculture facilities. An important element in students' education is the hall equipped with technological modern machinery and processing equipment of food technology and nutrition and laboratories of chemical, physicochemical and microbiologicaln analyses used to carry out multi-studies assessing the quality and safety of food.

Profile of a graduate
A graduate of the above field of study acquires knowledge and skills in the area of processing, preservation, storage and quality control of food as well as the principles of rational nutrition. S/he also acquires technical, technological and organizational skills facilitating to make economic activities related to food processing, catering and marketing of food. S/he is prepared to work in engineering positions in companies, factories and institutions dealing with control, marketing of food and human nutrition at the same time acquires the knowledge and skills to continue studies in the second cycle programme.

General information
Institute of Food Technology has been appointed by a resolution of the Senate in February 2006 and in July 2006, the Minister of Science and Higher Education gave the State Higher School of Computer Science and Business Administration in Lomza the entitlement to conduct studies of a first cycle programme at Food Technology and Human Nutrition.
Since the academic year 2006/2007 the education has been carried out in three specialities:
- Food engineering and organization of production
- Process automation
- The technology of biomass energy (from the academic year 2009/2010)
15 December 2011 the University Senate passed a resolution to change the name of the Institute for Food Technology and GastronomyI. Currently, the Institute educates the food technology and human nutrition, in the following specialties:
- food technology
- gastronomy
- food engineering and organization of production
Classes at the Institute of Food Technology and Gastronomy are conducted in a modern building with some of the most advanced laboratories in the country. For laboratories a unique equipment was ordered and installed , constituting elements of the latest lines of food processing.

Scientific Research
The Business Administration Institute from the very beginning of its existence, in accordance with the statutory objectives, is actively contributing to the economic development of the Podlasie region. As part of these activities following undertakings were implemented:
Research topics carried out in 2008-2010
1.The research on the project The Innovative Podlaski Agricultural and Food Processing Cluster (Podlaski Food Cluster) was divided into three main activities:
Activity I: Study of structure / Cluster Maps (analysis of the power relationships between the Cluster entities, the detection of the key areas for the operation of the Cluster; the preliminary determination of the potential economic entities in the cluster; determining the level of competitiveness and innovation of the entities in the Cluster.
Activity II: Cluster Benchmarking, determination of the relative innovation of the Food Cluster enterprises in several areas in comparison to similar organizational and sector structures, both at home and abroad and development of recommendations to improve the level of innovation in the examined Food Cluster; proposing recommendations for improvement of the level of innovation within the examined Food Cluster
2. Research within the project New Aspirations – change of attitudes and competences of pupils
The project aimed at promoting entrepreneurial attitudes among secondary school students from the region of the former Lomza province and studying the entrepreneurial practices in the region - the search for local community leaders, who are characterized by an entrepreneurial attitude.
3. Research within the project The Academic entrepreneurship - a regional program of innovation support through promotion of spin-off and spin-out enterprises dealt with the identification of Good Practices of Academic Entrepreneurship in Poland and abroad and the analysis of the status and challenges facing the Academic Entrepreneurship in the Podlaskie province.
UE Projects
1. „New Education – professional reorientation of teachers for the institutions of the labour market”
Project duration: 01.04.2006-31.10.2007
The beneficiaries of the project were teachers of public schools from the area of the 14 districts of the Podlasie province, who were threatened by restructuring processes, caused by the demographic low and the restructuring of the structures of the education system in Poland.
The aim of the project was to equip teachers with the skills to face the challenge of carrying out the new profession and to gain employment in the public and private labour market institutions and non-governmental organizations that are working for adult education, including those that benefit from the ESF funds.
2. TheInnovative Podlaski Agricultural and Food Processing Cluster (Podlaski Food Cluster)
Project duration: 01.10.2006-31.05.2008
The aim of the project was to increase the innovation potential of the Podlaski Agricultural and Food Processing Cluster. The project represented a necessary form of development of Regional Innovation Strategy in the Podlasie province in the key, for the Podlasie region, agricultural and food sector.
3. „New Aspirations – change of attitudes and competences of pupils”
Project duration: 01.01.2009-31.10.2010
Aim of the project: The aim of the project was to increase educational aspirations of the young people and to raise their competences.
4. „The Academic entrepreneurship - a regional program of innovation support through promotion of spin-off and spin-out enterprises”
Project duration: 02.01.2010 – 21.12.2011
Aim of the project: to increase, by the end of 2011, the range of cooperation of the scientific universities in the Podlaskie province with business by changing the attitude of the university authorities and researchers to the idea of academic entrepreneurship of the spin-off and spin-out types, the increase of practical competences in this regard and the financing of real cooperation through internships and practical training of research workers at enterprises.
5. „Professional administration personnel - a foundation of a well functioning state”
Project duration: 01.05.2010-30.09.2014
Aim of the project: Building the educational potential of the University by expanding and enriching the educational offer and improving its quality.
6. „Postgraduate studies for the development of personnel of the new economy”
Project duration: 01.01.2011-31.12.2012
Aim of the project: Support for the process of increasing the qualifications of the employees in both large and small and medium enterprises by November 2012 in accordance with the requirements of the knowledge-based economy and the needs of the regional labour market through the increase in the availability of postgraduate education.
7. „The Academy of Student Entrepreneurship”
Project duration: 01.09.2011-30.11.2012
Main aim of the project: founding of spin-off / spin-out type enterprises by at least 9 students from the universities in the Podlasie region by the end of November 2012.
8. „We support practitioners - science- business cooperation”
Project duration: 01.01.2013-31.12.2014
Main aim of the project: Improving the cooperation between the PWSIiP University and the enterprises in the field of innovation and transfer of technology
